Archie or Adolph?

Hitler wrote Mein Kampf' in 1924, while he was serving a prison term in Bavaria. The book was published a few years later.

Now, 80 years later (and still outlawed in Germany) a copy of it autographed by Adolf Hitler has sold for $34,900 (I don't know if he wrote an inscription like "All the best" or "See you at the movies." I'm guessing it was just his name).

A telephone bidder (anonymous, of course), bid at an auction in the town of Ludlow, in England.

Baseball Autograph Collectors Book

A story appeared in the New York Times about a guy named Jack Smalling, who for years and years has been collecting addresses of every living major league baseball player, umpire, manager and coach. He publishes them in a book called "The Baseball Autograph Collector's Handbook."

Smalling has been collecting autographs since the early 60s, and he compiled addresses to help fellow collectors (gotta love that). And he has more than 100,000 signatures in his personal… Continue

The Major Leagues decide to play hardball with a baseball card company

Maybe this story is more interesting to me because I collected sports cards as a kid, before moving on to autographs (I still have a nice collection of my basketball cards left). And because the Upper Deck card company is in Carlsbad, just 15 minutes north of my home in San Diego.

They had been considered the world's number two maker of baseball cards, but Major League Baseball said the other day, they are ending its licensing agreement with them. The league signed an exclusive deal… Continue

Will collectors save them?

Well, for musicians, they want their faces on the cover of a Rolling Stone. Just ask Dr. Hook.

For athletes, I suppose it's Sports Illustrated. The other two things they like, is announcing they'll be going to Disneyland. And, having their face on the box of Wheaties. After all, Sports Illustrated has a different issue each week. That's a lot of athletes. Wheaties only puts the Tiger Woods, Michael Phelps, and athletes like that on the box.

I used to play basketball with… Continue

A movie with no autograph signing, and a TV star that is signing

I saw the movie Funny People. An amazing film. It was funny. It tugged at the heart strings.

The one thing that surprised me, though, was the main character (Adam Sandler) is a famous comedian who has become a famous movie star (much like the real Adam Sandler). He's done a string of horrible films, that make a lot of money (Mer-man, which is him as a mermaid...and Re-do, which is a baby with his head on it, talking like an adult).

Anyway, they Sandler walking around, and… Continue

Wanna buy a Stephen King Autograph?

This fall, Scribner, Stephen King's publisher, is going to make autographed first editions of his novel "Under the Dome" available on their website. For the low, low price (read that last line in your best used car salesman voice) of....$200 apiece!

They are planning to sell 1,500 copies of the signed novels. Publisher Susan Moldow released a statement saying "This is fighting back against the disappearance of the book as an object."

Uh, okay.

At least the… Continue
