Whoopi Goldberg, Cheyenne Jackson & Keri Butler Signed Playbill

For my first blog post I thought I'd show off the Broadway Playbill I got signed at Xanadu by Whoopi Goldberg (she was a guest star in it for a few weeks) plus Cheyenne Jackson and… Continue

Disney will purchase the comic book powerhouse Marvel for $4B

I found this TidBit on the WEB:

LOS ANGELES – The Walt Disney Co. said Monday it is buying Marvel Entertainment Inc. for $4 billion in cash and stock, bringing such characters as Iron Man and Spider-Man into the family of Mickey Mouse and WALL-E.

Under the deal, Disney will acquire ownership of 5,000 Marvel characters. Many of them, including the Fantastic Four and the X-Men, were co-created by the comic book legend Stan Lee.

Inglorious Basterds Autograph Scenes

I always try to let people know when I see an autograph scene in a movie or TV show. Just for fun. It's not like it's big time breaking news in any way.

Well...with Inglorious Basterds (or however that is spelled), being the top film at the box office opening weekend (and probably an equally strong second weekend, since it's getting praised reviews and good word of mouth)...which surprises me, as I was very disappointed in the movie.

Anywhooo....

I found it so… Continue

JIMMIE JOHNSON...NASCAR'S champion..is a champion of the Sharpie too...

Throughout the 22 years that I have been obtaining NASCAR autographs in-person, I have had the chance to meet every driver that has driven in the sport. Many times, these drivers come along and begin their careers as fast drivers and great signers. However, as time goes on or as they become more popular, they stop signing as much as they once did. This is not to say that they do not sign or that they don't like signing for the fans. It usually means that they have more and more demands placed… Continue

Tiny Tim, Big Price

One of my friends, knowing I'm a collector, had sent me this story a month ago. I completely forgot about it, until I saw it listed in the "News of the Weird" section of the San Diego Reader, a paper I write for in San Diego.

Tiny Tim, the crazy 60s' singer of "Tiptoe Thru the Tulips", who played the ukele and looked like a fatter Weird Al Yankovic...oh, and he also got married on the Tonight Show.

Anyway, a Texas accountant named Randy Reeves (I'm not sure how he let his… Continue

I Cannot Tell a Lie...This Lincoln Autograph is Real!

Back east in Ohio, an expert at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library said a guy in town that found a Lincoln signature at a fleamarket, may have gotten the real deal. And, to top that off, it might be the last signature Lincoln ever did. It was on a program for the theatre at the show he was at the night he was killed.

Okay, I made those last few sentences up just to see if you were paying attention.

This guy bought a bunch of papers in 2006 in South Amherst, 30 miles… Continue

Tweet an Autograph, and another Upper Decker

I did a blog about Upper Deck being worked over by Major League baseball. Well, they signed a multi-year exclusive deal to produce collegiate sports cards.

The one interesting thing about this for collectors is, getting cards of players before they hit the major leagues, which will now make their card the valuable "rookie" cards that are most valuable.

And this doesn't just mean baseball. Look for Upper Deck to give ya football, basketball, as well as hockey, swimming,… Continue

Michael Jackson and Streisand Auction Items

Barbra Streisand used to buy a lot of stuff. I know this, because a friend of a friend that owns an antique shop in San Diego told me of the few times she came in and bought many items (and always argued about the price and tried to bargain).

Now she's selling some of the stuff she has. So, if you want a couch to lounge on, that she may have...now is your chance.

In October, she's going to auction over 400 personal items to benefit her charity. The 67-year-old star said… Continue

Archie or Adolph?

Hitler wrote Mein Kampf' in 1924, while he was serving a prison term in Bavaria. The book was published a few years later.

Now, 80 years later (and still outlawed in Germany) a copy of it autographed by Adolf Hitler has sold for $34,900 (I don't know if he wrote an inscription like "All the best" or "See you at the movies." I'm guessing it was just his name).

A telephone bidder (anonymous, of course), bid at an auction in the town of Ludlow, in England.

One… Continue

Baseball Autograph Collectors Book

A story appeared in the New York Times about a guy named Jack Smalling, who for years and years has been collecting addresses of every living major league baseball player, umpire, manager and coach. He publishes them in a book called "The Baseball Autograph Collector's Handbook."

Smalling has been collecting autographs since the early 60s, and he compiled addresses to help fellow collectors (gotta love that). And he has more than 100,000 signatures in his personal… Continue

The Major Leagues decide to play hardball with a baseball card company

Maybe this story is more interesting to me because I collected sports cards as a kid, before moving on to autographs (I still have a nice collection of my basketball cards left). And because the Upper Deck card company is in Carlsbad, just 15 minutes north of my home in San Diego.

They had been considered the world's number two maker of baseball cards, but Major League Baseball said the other day, they are ending its licensing agreement with them. The league signed an exclusive deal… Continue

Will collectors save them?

Well, for musicians, they want their faces on the cover of a Rolling Stone. Just ask Dr. Hook.

For athletes, I suppose it's Sports Illustrated. The other two things they like, is announcing they'll be going to Disneyland. And, having their face on the box of Wheaties. After all, Sports Illustrated has a different issue each week. That's a lot of athletes. Wheaties only puts the Tiger Woods, Michael Phelps, and athletes like that on the box.

I used to play basketball with… Continue

A movie with no autograph signing, and a TV star that is signing

I saw the movie Funny People. An amazing film. It was funny. It tugged at the heart strings.

The one thing that surprised me, though, was the main character (Adam Sandler) is a famous comedian who has become a famous movie star (much like the real Adam Sandler). He's done a string of horrible films, that make a lot of money (Mer-man, which is him as a mermaid...and Re-do, which is a baby with his head on it, talking like an adult).

Anyway, they Sandler walking around, and… Continue
