When the “proof picture” proves it's a fake!

Astute collectors know that crooked sellers use phony proof pictures to sell their fakes all the time. They steal images from other signings, pluck a photo from an internet search, and so on.

These so-called proof pictures rarely prove anything, but in this case, it proves the item is a fake, or at least, it is not the same photo that is being offered!

Here is a photo supposedly signed by Joe DiMaggio, Whitey Ford, Billy Martin and Mickey Mantle.…

Any Idea What This Is From/What This Means?

IMG_3607.JPG

So I have a huge issue with PSA and I also am trying to figure out what is written on this basketball""A quick background of the situation:  I started collecting when I was 5 but nothing too extravagant until around 23 yrs old (8 years ago).  Unfortunately, a contractor got me for over $90k and I need money to finish my home so I have been selling away my…

Star Trek Beyond -- World Premiere and Autographs with the Cast

As a movie critic, I got to the movie screenings a week or two before the films open. I get invited to the screenings in L.A. where the cast usually appear, but...I’m 100 miles away in San Diego. There’s something about driving that far, and dealing with Los Angeles traffic, that doesn’t seem so…

A Complete Collection: Is It Happiness or The Saddest Thing Ever?

I think Steve Buscemi nailed it in Ghost World as Seymour: "Well, you think it's healthy to obsessively collect things? You can't connect with other people, so you fill your life with stuff. I'm just like all the rest of these pathetic collector…

Autographs for Sale if...Your Name is BILL !!!

So, I just moved into a new place. It's always fun when you do that, to go through all your autographs and admire the things you've acquired over the years.

Anyway, I have about 100 albums...well, maybe 50...that I bought from an estate sale. They're all autographed "To Bill" or "Bill." They're usually followed by something along the lines of "best wishes" but usually, more like "Thank you so much for all of your support."

There are some big, big names in this collection, from…

Autographs in Movies and TV -- the Mistaken Identity Edition

I occasionally do blogs where I tell autograph stories that I see in movies or on TV shows, so...here are the latest.

In the new Woody Allen movie -- Cafe Society -- it takes place in the ‘30s. There’s lots of talk about the old movie stars of…

We Are Not In Control!

In today's 24-hour news cycle, a celebrity's career can be undone in the blink of an eye. The story doesn't even have to be true in some cases, but if it is reported, the public forms its own perception, usually without all the facts. It can even go to trial...yet the presumption of innocence doesn't count in the world of public opinion. No matter what the jury concludes, no matter the final verdict....people's minds are…

Joe Jackson -- He's the Man (just not with autographs)

Joe Jackson is amazing. What’s baffling to me is, if you Google his name, he’s third on the list of famous Joe Jackson’s. Now, I have no problem with Shoeless Joe Jackson being ahead of him. That’s a guy that should be in the baseball Hall of Fame, but the “Blacksox Scandal” ruined his career;…

The Memorabilia Formerly Known as EXPENSIVE -- The Prince Edition

We knew when Prince died, there’d be lots of items popping up for sale. Of course, on eBay, that meant a lot of forged Prince signatures. The higher end Prince items have gone to the bigger auction houses.

In March, Prince’s ex, Mayte Garcia, auctioned off a lot of…

In-person for June: Started bad, ended pretty good.

It was kind of a June swoon when talking about in-person autographs for me.  I had some success but it did not start out well.

The month began with my friend calling me at the last minute saying another photographer friend had an extra ticket to Peter Wolf’s show.  So I jumped in my car and headed to Cleveland to see Mr. Woofa Goofa put on an amazing show.  He actually signed a copy of “Lights Out” for a fan from the stage.  After the show, about 10 people were hanging out trying to…

Bonhams

Steve, just curious about the other signed Beatles items in the auction, specifically, lot 227 With The Beatles album, and lot 229 Publicity Card. Are these items authentic signatures? The descriptions do not mention any certification.

The Dolphins and Donald -- More Crime in the Autograph Hobby

It seems like only yesterday I did a story about the shooting of a singer on The Voice at a meet-and-greet, autograph signing after the show. Now, a few other crimes to report.

In Boynton Beach, Florida, police raided a burglar’s house. One of…

In 1964 she was pursuing her love of fashion design and is famously known for a Koala sweeter design, but also in 1964 she saw the Beatles in Sydney play in concert. After the show Jenny and her girlfriends managed to get in to the Sheraton hotel and rendezvous with the Beatles, watch youtube video.

A Murder at an Autograph Signing -- Christina Grimmie

As a kid, I’ll never forget the first time I saw the photo of Mark David Chapman, the guy who killed John Lennon. It was a photo that showed him getting Lennon’s autograph on the “Double Fantasy” album.

I thought about that when I heard about this crazy story. Singer…

Punk Rock Autographs -- The Bow Wow Wow, Clash, and Sex Pistols Edition

As a movie critic, people often ask me what my favorite films are. You can never pick your favorite one, but I have a bunch that are always on the list. I’ll say that I can’t decide between Tootsie, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, Star Wars, Dr. Strangelove, Casablanca, Pulp…

The Victims Of Muhammad Ali Forgeries On Ebay GFA/Rocchi

As we've noticed during the last 48 hours, both Ebay and the Ebay sellers of Muhammad Ali forgeries are making a killing on Ebay.

The victims (who don't know yet that they are victims) are getting scammed to no end.

It's both sad and disgusting.

First, immediately below, link to my first four threads on GFA-certed (Stephen Rocchi) Muhammad Ali…
