The Picture Proof Photos (P.P.P.) above shows the difference in grading a Picture Proof Photo (P.P.P.).

The top (P.P.P.) is the most rare,…

George Martin Died -- And I Still Can't Forgive Him For 8 Years Ago !!!!

If you’ve ever used the expression “it happens in three’s” regarding celebrity deaths -- you’re an idiot. Unless three people died within an hour, it never even makes sense when people say it. And what qualifies as one of the three? George Kennedy might be a household name to us movie lovers, but not…

Warning Signs an Autograph Dealer May Be Selling Forgeries

There have been countless write-ups and articles about what to look for when it comes to buying autographs. Most have the same information such as "if it's too good to be true it probably is," and recommend comparing the autograph to known exemplars, secretarials, autopens and other references.

Instead of discussing the technical aspects of…

Slow Winter on the Autograph Front

Although it has been a pretty mild winter, the autograph opportunities have been few and far between in the Cleveland area.  This is what I've been up to over the last 2 months.

I decided to make the trek to Pittsburgh to see the opening night of Springsteen's River tour.  We had GA tickets so I didn't try to get any autographs as we had to line up for the lottery to get into the pit.  A friend went down to try to get Bruce and said it was a crazy scene once people figured out…

Poitics and Autographs

I don’t like politics. Never have. Now with all this social media and Facebook, you see how many friendships end based on disagreements about it. It’s also baffling how so many people get things wrong about the candidate they support (or hate).…

The Curious Case of Bill Murray

When Autograph magazine  used to be something you could find at newsstands, I was sometimes asked to write the Top 10 list of best/worst autograph signers for the years. This sometimes lead to threats of lawsuits (Steve still won’t tell me what A-list actress sent a nasty…

Autographed Broken Guitars

There are lots and lots of great autographed guitar stories out there. I thought I’d share some that involve broken guitars.

The one that involves a guitar I own is a bit frustrating. Mostly because it left me with an item that isn’t all that interesting to look…

I have no idea how I could ever authenticate this signature.

Hi Folks,   I don't think that I'll be able to authenticate the attached item. Many prints are being sold today and used in church circle of Jesus Christ.  The attached "signed" item was given to me over 50 years ago, by a neighbor who was in his 90's, and from…

A Pen Pal Friend of Mine, and Basketball Legend, Has Passed -- Who Said White Men Can't Jump?

When I was a little kid, I became obsessed with basketball. I'd go to the rec center and play most days, even if it was rainy weather or I had basketball practices. I had T-shirts with various basketball players on them -- usually Lakers players or Pete Maravich. One day I had a substitute teacher in 10th grade. I was wearing the warm-up shirt of the JV team I played on and…

Missed Opportunities -- The Autographs That Slipped Through My Fingers

We all have those stories about the person we approached for an autograph and got turned down. I thought I'd do a slightly different blog on this. It's the autographs I didn't get, because of something that was my own fault. They'll be in a random order, of how they come to me.
While working in radio in the early '90s, Pete Townshend was coming to La Jolla, only 15 minutes from my radio station, to work on what would be the live version of Tommy. I got press credentials and was…

A truly positive experience receiving an autograph! (Share your best too)

I wanted to provide a flip to the discussion asking people for the worse in person experience. This doesn't necessarily have to be in person, as I just had a wonderful example of an artist being extra kind to one of their fans.

Not many people are aware of the group The Swell Season (however they have a cult type following), in fact they aren't even together anymore. They are Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova, if you have heard of the movie Once then you have seen…

Award Show Autographs

There's one big problem with having a job in media and being somebody that is into autographs. It's the fact that, if you're at an event or interviewing a celebrity, you lose credibility if you ask for an autograph. It just looks unprofessional. Now, the years…

The Dead Weather -- Thoughts on Jack White during the rain storms in California

I've talked before about my love of Jack White and The White Stripes. They were an amazing band. And since I was a fan in the early days when they played smaller clubs, I got lots and lots of stuff signed. Even as they got bigger, I'd buy the current CD and get them to sign it before and after shows (of course, the crowds of fans got bigger and it was a little…

What's your favorite colour, baby?

Living Colour made a stop in Cleveland right before New Years Eve.  What a show!

I first saw the band open up for the Rolling Stones in '89.  Well I actually only saw one song as I had to wait on my brother to get to old Cleveland Stadium.  I was pretty upset that I missed their show, but I did get to hear "Cult of Personality."

The next time a saw…

Johnny Depp -- A Class Act (but overpaid)

I have been having computer problems, and found this old blog that didn't post. So, here it is. Perfect timing, with reports coming out that Johnny Depp is the most overpaid actor (his last few movies making a lot less than he is paid).…

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame -- The Cheap Trick Edition

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame announced their entries the other day. I've always had problems with that organization. How can they not have Yes, Jethro Tull, or any band Paul Rodgers (Bad Company, Free) has been a part of? Oh, and The Cars. What an amazing group. They have three albums that didn't have a single bad song on them (self-titled…
