Hollywood Stuff -- Autographs from Joker, Spike Lee, and Springsteen

A few random Hollywood autograph stories I thought I’d throw into one blog.

First, the new Joker movie (which was surprisingly disappointing. My review here: https://fox5sandiego.com/2019/10/02/joker/ ).

There was a great autograph…

It’s My Money

It was my freshman year of college in the spring of 1988.  I walked to a local convenience store to purchase a few necessaries.  While I was checking out, I noticed a box of Topps baseball cards on the counter.  I could not resist.  With the exception of one pack in the spring of 1986, I had not purchased baseball cards since 1981.  That was the year that the New York Yankees lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers in the World Series.

I spent the entire summer of 1988 completing that set.…

The Oldest Mark Twain Autograph -- Discovered on Cave Wall!!

This is one of those unique autograph stories that I always like uncovering. Well, I didn’t “uncover” it, two Mark Twain enthusiasts did. They spent over 20 years examining this Missouri cave that was made famous in “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer.” It’s a cave where Sam Clemens and his friends played in. It was the mid-1800s,…

Meeting Jimmy Page -- An Autograph, Photo, and Hour Long Conversation

“If I played guitar, I’d be Jimmy Page,” is a lyric from a Beastie Boys song. I always thought it was clever, but since I always wanted to be a drummer, I thought I’d have the line, “If I played drums I’d be John Bonham.”

The closest I got to being like Bonham was the dad-bod and beard I’m sporting now. But this isn’t about drummers, it’s about guitarists. Arguably, one of the best in rock…

Willie Mays Forgeries on Counterfeit 2003 Topps Legends Autograph Cards Flood Market

Earlier this year I posted blogs on forged autographs on counterfeit Derek Jeter 1995 Upper Deck cards and forged autographs on counterfeit Sandy Koufax 2000 SP Authentic cards.

During that time I heard rumblings about other counterfeit sports cards with forged autographs but didn't follow-up on it.

Just recently though, by accident, I stumbled upon a Willie Mays…

Auctioned Underwear

There’s always that debate about selling Nazi and Hitler memorabilia. Well, this one takes the cake. It’s a pair of underpants that belonged to his wife, Eva Braun. At a British auction recently, they went for more than $4,600. And before you ask...all I know is it had her initials embroidered in them. I have no other details…

NFL Player Dissed Young Autograph Seeker

I feel guilty on how I handle my Sunday mornings. I sleep in, saunter up and grab the morning newspaper and turn on the pre-football games, while the wife gets ready to go to church. I do not go to church, because I’m a heathen who only believes in...who ever is my fantasy football quarterback this year (Matt Ryan this time).

I woke up a little earlier this morning and turned on the pre-game shows, but during a…

Eddie Money -- At That Big Concert in the Sky

I was saddened to wake up and hear that Edward Mahoney had died, known to most as Eddie Money. It’s not like it wasn’t expected. We heard about his stage 4 esophageal cancer last month, and he announced he wouldn’t be touring again.

I wasn’t the biggest fan of his stuff, but he had some tunes I liked. The former NYPD officer, left being a cop to pursue music, and it was a wise choice. …

Nirvana -- My Autographed Photo and a Cobain Check

I have two big regrets when it comes to Nirvana and getting their autographs. I was working as a DJ at a rock station in the ‘90s, and it was a few weeks before their huge record “Nevermind” came out. They previously had an EP, but I wasn’t familiar with it.

The band came to San Diego and did a record store appearance, where they performed and signed the new CD. About 50 people showed up. The ones I talked to said…

Mickey Mantle autograph signed to my brother at a trade show in 1972 or 1973

I came across this website when I was trying to look up a value of this Mickey Mantle autograph signed to my brother at a trade show back in 1972 or 1973. Any thoughts?…

Movie Scene Autographs -- Stephen King and Robin Williams

I met Robin Williams a few times, and he was always great signing autographs. One time, he was really upbeat. Another time, he got out of his limo, and seemed really sad. He was carrying a suit with him (that he would wear onstage that night for his performance in San Diego). I had him sign my "The World According to Garp" video, as well as a picture I ripped…

How Far Would You Go?

When I realized that Val Kilmer would be attending Terrificon this August, I immediately thought of my Warwick Davis signed Willow photo, and how incomplete it was without his signature.  A decision needed to be made.  Was it too far away?  Would I regret not attending, since he makes rare appearances?  I did not hesitate, and I immediately purchased a ticket.…

Sharpie Disasters

I hate much of the music that comes out today. Don't even get me started on that "Old Town Road" song, which might be the worst song I've ever heard in my life, yet it now has the distinction of being the longest #1 song in music history.

Yet there was a song I heard last year by rapper Lizzo that I think is kind of catchy. So when she was on The Today…

Things I’ve learned as a long-time Beatles autograph dealer & collector

By Perry Cox

Hello to everyone, and thanks to the moderators for allowing me to become a member of this fine community. I’ve heard good things about Autograph Live and I support it.

I respect everyone's opinion as well about anything signed or reportedly signed by any or all members of the Beatles, whether I agree with their assessment or not. It’s clear you care about…

R. Kelly and R. Plant -- Phone Numbers Given to Autograph Seekers

We’ve all heard the crazy stories about R. Kelly and how he kept women locked up (allegedly), and the various rape charges. There was that crazy interview he did with Gayle King where he stood up and started freaking out and she sat there calmly, saying his name.

Well since the…

Personalized License Plate Gets Signed on Side of Road

Odell Beckham, Jr. helped my fantasy football team last year. Someone was so disgusted with how bad he played in two straight games, they cut him to pick somebody else up. I snatched OBJ up and...although he didn’t have the stellar numbers he’s had in years past, I was happy with him usually getting a TD a game.

He’s with the Cleveland Browns this year, a team that is going to be interesting and fun to watch, but…

Signing Autographs Caused Celeb to Break His Hand!

NASCAR star Tony Stewart is probably bigger other places than his hometown here outside San Diego. That’s because racing isn’t a huge sport in the beach side communities. I’ve had many opportunities to meet him at events because he is from the area, but never cared enough to go.

Last Friday, he appeared at a spring car All-Star racing event in Jackson, Minnesota. It was to celebrate “Tony Stewart Night.” What could…

My Ersatz Laslo Toth Period

In the 1990's, I walked into a thrift shop and walked out with some old typewriter.  At the time, I was fascinated by writers like PJ O' Rourke and Hunter Thompson, and the organic nature of writing appealed to me.  I also understood that Thompson especially, used a typewriter right up until he typed the word "counselor" on a single page before making a self-inflicted exit.

About that time  I picked up Don Novello's "Lazlo letters" a compendium of letter written to all sections of…

Autographs on the Body Part II -- The Richard Petty Edition

Bubba Wallace had a 2nd place finish in the Daytona 500 in 2018. It was the best finish ever for an African-American driver. He posted a photo of an autograph he got of Richard Petty on Twitter, and said if it got 43,000 retweets, he’d get it tattooed on his body. Now, he’s going to get that “champ stamp” as some are calling it (a cute play on the expression “tramp stamp”, bout the tattoos women have right above their butts).…

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Rocks

Having the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in basically your own back yard, has a ton of advantages including meeting artists and getting some autographs.

Not only has the Hall been updated with new exhibits, but they also added an interactive exhibit called The Garage where you can actually play real instruments.  They have tutorial videos for…
