The Everly Brothers -- We Lost Another Legend

The first time I heard The Everly Brothers was as a kid watching Happy Days on TV in the ‘70s. I loved their harmonies and ballads. As a teenager, I was looking for a song called “Poor Jenny” from a German opera, and found a song of theirs with the same title. I had forgotten how much I liked them, and got a CD compilation of all their hits.

At the NAMM event in…

The KISS Kronikles -- Ace Frehley Edition

I can take or leave the band Kiss. I have a few of their albums, a few of their CDs, and as a kid always made fun of any of anybody that dressed as one of them on Halloween. That’s why it makes it so much more frustrating when I didn’t get guitarist Ace Frehley’s autograph. You see, as an autograph collector, the two most frustrating autograph attempts are: A) the…

Gerald Ford and Bob Hope - real or fake?

Was poking around in an antique store in Marietta, GA, the other day, and came across these 2 autographs for sale. Wondered what everyone else thought about these.

First, a Gerald Ford signed Sports Illustrated magazine. To me, it looks like a really bad forgery.

Second, I saw this Bob Hope autographed album next to it. Looks like it could be…

Farrah Fawcett Painting by Andy Warhol -- And How This Affects the Relationship with my Kid

I was surprised when I got home from work today, turned on the news, and saw that actor Ryan O’Neal won his long legal battle over ownership of an Andy Warhol portrait of the late Farrah Fawcett. He had an on again/off again relationship with her for 30 years and when she was dying of cancer, he always seemed to be lurking around. At the time, I found it all very odd. I…

Bob Dylan Guitar Sells for $1 Million!

Well, it seems like just yesterday we were talking about Bruce Springsteen lyrics going for 200k (you can read the previous blog about that). Now it’s a Bob Dylan guitar that went for a cool million!

Now, I know a little about guitars and what they sell for. My friend Greg Dorsett owns a business called “Rock Star Guitars” and they have dealt with a few Jimi Hendrix…

A Bar Room Brawl -- All for an Autograph

Often times, people tell me how lucky I am that I get to interview movie stars as part of my job as a film critic. Usually I’m just interviewing them over the phone, but it is fun when they do the press junket and you get 15 minutes with them.

One writer talked about being invited to George Clooney’s house to interview him, and loving the autographed photos he had on…

Give Me a Head With Hair (Just not for collecting purposes!)

It’s strange how people get when it comes to collectables. Just today, I heard that the gold medal Jesse Owens won in the Berlin Olympics in 1936 (talk about a big F-U to Hitler), is on the auction blocks. He apparently gave it to Bill “Mr. Bojangles” Robinson. If I were rich, I’d pay millions for it (it’s currently around $200,000); easily one of the coolest pieces of sports…

Bruce, Buble, and Booze -- Singers and Handwritten lyrics

Since music autographs are the favorite in my collection, and I’m thankful for the amazing collection I have, I thought I’d share some recent stories that popped up in the news.

Here in San Diego, Michael Buble had a concert at the Sports Arena. I’m not a fan of the crooner (and I turned down a free pair of tickets to…

Biggest Autographed Baseball Collection in the World!

There’s nothing more enjoyable than meeting a fellow collector and hearing about their autograph collection. As somebody that prefers autographed records and CDs, it’s always the most fun to hear about those.

I have a lot of authors I like, yet I don’t own a lot of signed books. I’m always envious when I go to New York and see the…

Attaining Nirvana

As everyone knows that buying a Nirvana signed memorabilia’s is a crapshoot. You would not know what you are getting unless you got the autographs in person yourself. Nirvana autographs are widely forged and available all over the internet. There has been much discussion here on the forum on Nirvana autographs. But there are not too many Nirvana autographs that have been authenticated by widely recognized 3rd Party Authentication companies. Solid provenance of where the autographs…

Athletes and Injuries -- The Autograph Edition

There have been so many stories about athletes being injured in weird ways. A former major league pitcher I know (who once pitched a perfect game), once cut up his hand while chasing a friend around his kitchen. He slipped on the floor and was holding a mug that broke.

I’ve heard of at last two baseball players that ironed their jerseys – WHILE WEARING THEM!!!

If…
