Eli Manning Selling Bogus Memorabilia

Usually when you hear about bogus stuff involving sports memorabilia, it’s companies pawning off forgeries. This latest one I heard about is interesting, because it involves the athlete. And I’ve often wondered if athletes did this.

One of the reasons I’ve thought about it is hearing pro athletes talk about all the stuff fans want to buy from them. Another reason is when I worked as a morning DJ at a radio station, we had an attractive DJ working…

An Eagle and an Eagle -- The Best Golf Story Ever

A few of my friends who are autograph collectors used to get lectures from me. One of them always brought a guitar for autographs. The musicians hated it, and it created a bad vibe for everyone. I always said if you can, wear a shirt that the artist will like seeing. They’ll know you’re a fan and not just an ebay dealer. Of course, when I wore a “Help” shirt, McCartney drove his Corvette right by me, waving and winking, but never stopping to sign for me.…

How a Teenage Sports Memorabilia Collector Cracked a Case

As a kid, sport autographs were my favorite to acquire. As an adult, they’re my least favorite. I won’t delve into all the reasons why, but it makes the fact that this is the third story I’ve written about the Tom Brady missing jersey all the more frustrating. And I hate the Patriots!!!!

I wrote about it being stolen. I wrote about it being recovered. I thought that would be all that was needed with this story, but when I found out about how it…

Weird Thing at Autograph / Memorabilia Store

Just sitting here watching Conan O'Brien (I'll never forget the time he held up a copy of Autograph magazine to talk with Will Ferrell about a story I wrote about him). Anywhooo....he talked about the autographed Playboy magazine that sold for $4,900 (which is way over-priced and will never be worth that). Conan's joke was, "It was inscribed 'To my good friend Dr. Ben Carson...

Anyway, that's not why I'm writing this blog at 11 p.m. It's because I went to a mall I hadn't been to in…

Celebrities at CinemaCon

CinemaCon is a big movie convention in Las Vegas that’s attended by many movie theatre owners and people in the business. Unlike ComicCon, it’s not something the casual fan would want to attend (not to mention the tickets being a 10 times the price of ComicCon). They have trade shows that show off various products that theatre owners might be interested in…

HISTORICAL PHOTOS (That Aren't Autographed) -- Harriet Tubman Edition

Collecting autographs has made me crazy. For example, I can’t look at a photo of somebody famous without a signature on it, and appreciate it. The picture just looks...so naked without a dark black Sharpie signature across the top!

Speaking of naked...there was a music website where a guy was bragging about a photo of Jim Morrison he purchased for thousands of dollars. It had never been published before, and the person with the negative was only…

Tom Brady Jersey Recovered

I did a blog about the Tom Brady Super Bowl jersey that disappeared. I thought it would only be fitting (no pun intended) to do the follow up.

A media executive working for the Mexican media named Martin Mauricio Ortega is the suspect. He’s the former director of the tabloid La Prensa. He went to the Super Bowl as a working…

Damn Right I Have the Blues! -- The James Cotton Edition

Everyone is talking about the death of rock ‘n roll legend Chuck Berry. Well, a few days before his passing, another legend died. Hardly a household name, but he certainly was in my household.

James Cotton was Muddy Waters harmonica player, who in the ‘60s, played a lot of shows at the legendary Fillmore. As a kid obsessed with…

The Chuck Berry Blog -- RIP King of Rock n Roll

The Chuck Berry signature on the neck of a guitar I own is one of my prized possessions. He’s the original rock ‘n roller.

Now, as a movie critic, my two favorite movies featuring Chuck Berry would be “Hail! Hail! Rock ‘n Roll.” I only saw it once, and seem to recall Keith Richards got punched out in it.…

Not Wanting to Bother Famous People -- the CHIPS Edition

I was listening to KFI 640 AM, a Los Angeles radio station. I often like to listen to “talk radio” when I’m driving, but have no interest in hearing people discuss politics. They have a lot of shows with interesting hosts, and they delve into other topics. Yesterday on the “Gary and Shannon” show, Gary talked about being…

Want to Buy a Collectible Car?

I’ve written about cars before, and I’m always a bit perplexed with a car sells for millions, merely because it was used in a movie or once owned by somebody famous. Now, I’m not saying I’d kick an original Batmobile out of bed….errr….out of the garage. It’s just odd that some people think these cars are worth so much. Remember the Seinfeld episode where Kramer…

Weird NBA Collectables -- the Wilt Chamberlain/Stephen Curry Edition

For the longest time, Wilt Chamberlain was my favorite basketball player. That’s because as a kid, the Lakers were my favorite team. Once they drafted Magic Johnson, he quickly became my favorite player.

I was lucky enough to get Chamberlain’s autograph when I sent him a letter after reading his autobiography. Magic was a lot…

I'll Complete This Autograph Project....Come Hell or High Water!

All of you autograph collectors will understand these two things. The biggest celebrity you ever got a signature from after never thinking it would happen (mine would be Paul McCartney; took me 10 years). The other thing we all love is that autograph project we’re working on. It might be that “American Graffiti” movie poster you’re trying to get signed by the…

Wearing Jersey Leads to Autograph -- The Odell Beckham/Drake Edition

Terrell Owens was denied entry into the NFL Hall of Fame for a second time, which shows just how ridiculous the system is. He was one of the best receivers to ever play the game. Also one of the biggest dopes, but still. It’s not like the NFL threw OJ Simpson out after he murdered two people (allegedly).

I thought about Owens…

My Time with Richard Hatch -- May He Rest in Peace

This is one of those rare times I’m going to write about an actor who I met many times, yet I’ve never asked for an autograph from.

My older brother collected sci-fi memorabilia and was obsessed with the show Battlestar Galactica. So the first time I…

Tom Brady and Kobe Bryant THEFTS

I did a blog the other day about a game worn jersey I had of Tom Brady that's for sale. I was merely making a joke, because if you hadn't heard...during the Super Bowl, and the celebration the Patriots were having, somebody swiped quarterback Tom Brady's jersey from his locker. There's video of him telling the owner (Kraft), and he says, "I'll probably pop up online." (or something to that affect).

If somebody stole the game worn jersey, of perhaps the greatest quarterback of all…

Sports Memorabilia For Sale -- For Patriots Fans ONLY!

SPORTS MEMORABILIA FOR SALE!
Now, I hate parting with pieces I love, but I figure the time is right to sell this...and at a terrific price. I just acquired a piece that I think would be of interest to some fan. It's a game-worn jersey of Tom Brady's. It's not autographed, as I....errr...the person that acquired it didn't have time to ask him to sign it. He just kind of took it and...got it to me. Anybody interested?

Jimmy Kimmel Live -- An Autographed Super Bowl Football

I was backstage at Jimmy Kimmel Live one time, and it was thrilling. Mostly because I think he’s the funniest late night talk show host. I’m stoked that he’s hosting the Oscars this year.

Also, for those that haven’t heard, he…

Asia Autographs -- Rest in Peace John Wetton

I found out a musician died this morning, and two frustrating autograph stories involving him, popped into my brain.

John Wetton, the 67 year old bassist and singer, is the one that passed away. They say it was related to colon cancer, but he had problems in the past with…

Donald Trump Autographs -- My Take On It

There was a story I read in one of the newspapers last week. It was all about autograph shops and memorabilia places. Of course, my interest was piqued. Unfortunately, it only dealt with one kind of autograph -- Donald Trump. Specifically, the fact that he's now "President Trump" (no matter how you feel about him, you gotta admit...it's weird saying "President…
