When I went to a party at director James Cameron’s house, I loved the Shelby Cobra he had out front. It was also cool to see the dashboard was signed by Shelby Cobra.
When I’ve seen signatures on cars, it’s usually on the dashboard. Sometimes there have been things like that car hood signed by musicians at various MTV awards (there…

Sometimes film festivals are the perfect place to get autographs. If you know which actors will be there, you can bring something from one of their films. I’ll usually opt for a DVD sleeve. It’s easy to carry, and there’s something about an 8x10 that just screams “I’m selling this on eBay tomorrow.”
The last film festival I went to…

The other day, comedian and actor Denis Leary was on Conan O’Brien. He was promoting his new book, and the subject of autographs came up. He talked about when he started out doing comedic shorts for MTV and first started getting recognized places. He said it was just people at first that would say things like “Hey, it’s you” and smile, or nod their head. But at…

It ain’t cheap, babe. I said, no, no, no...it ain’t cheap babe. But this is the guitar that you’re looking for….
It’s a 1963 Martin D-28 acoustic that Bob Dylan played at many concerts in the ‘70s, including his “Rolling Thunder Revue” tour in the mid-70s.
When Heritage Auctions auctions it next month, they’re expecting $300,000 for the ax. The person making good money on it is Larry Cragg, who was Dylan’s guitar…

Here in San Diego, I found out about an interesting charity item. Charitybuzz.com has a listing for a group of three to play golf with Phil Mickelson, at his home course in Rancho Santa Fe. A few days ago, the bid was over $100,000. Oh, in case you think that’s a bit pricey, keep this in mind -- it includes lunch.

So, if the Dodgers and Yankees have a showdown in the World Series this year, I wonder who former second baseman Steve Sax will root for. He played for both teams.
My favorite Steve Sax story has little to do with him. I was in 9th grade, and an older guy I played basketball with and could drive, took us to a San Diego Clippers…

As a cigar lover, and collector of memorabilia, I remember when a bunch of JFK items hit the auction block. There was a humidor that comedic legend Milton Berle had given to him, and it was engraved. It ended up going for half a million dollars.
I thought of that recently when I heard that RR Auction recently sold a half smoked…

I've never seen Tom Petty play live. I had a few of his albums, as well as his Greatest Hits CD (love his cover of "Something in the Air"). When I worked at a classic rock radio station in the early 90s, I was ticked when he did an interview show on another station and some of the DJs from our station went to the taping. They all got his new album, Full Moon Fever (with the terrific "Running Down a Dream") autographed. Had I know, I would've been there. Or at least given them a record to get…

I heard on the news today that the helmet Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) wore in the “Guardians of the Galaxy” movie sold at auction for $160,000. It was part of the auction a UK memorabilia store and auction house called “Prop Store” had going.
When I checked their website for other items they had, it was…

When a celebrity dies, I get a little bit sad thinking about all the work they did that I loved. Two recent deaths were a little easier to take, since they were in their 90s. Character actor and musician Harry Dean Stanton, who has been in at least 100 movies, died at 91. I never got his autograph, but at an event with other actors, I once overheard him…

Since I do movie reviews in San Diego, I sometimes take note of autograph scenes in movies. I highly recommend you AVOID going to see the movie “mother!” I know, it has a great cast (Jennifer Lawrence, Javier Bardem, Ed Harris, Michelle Pfeiffer, Domhnall Gleeson) and a talented director Darren Aronofsky (Black Swan, The Wrestler, Pi). It’s horrible. But, there…

My favorite Hillary Clinton autograph story I heard in this very magazine. Somebody went to her office when she was Senator of New York. They brought a Monica Lewinsky book, but took the cover off a Hillary book and placed it over that. He asked if Clinton could sign the book. The receptionist was reluctant, but finally went back to get her. She came out,…

We’ve all heard stories about somebody that was at a garage sale and bought a Jackson Pollock painting for $5. Well, this one will be the best ever in terms of the amount of money paid for the item. A couple, Talia Rappa and Skyer Ashworth, were going through clothes at a Salvation Army in Florida. It was going out of business and selling stuff cheaper than…

One of the perks I have being a movie critic is seeing all the movies before they come out (and not paying to see ‘em). At a screening the other night, I was interested in a documentary coming out soon called “Rumble: The Indians Who Rocked the World.” As a huge fan of rock ‘n roll, this is right in my wheelhouse.
I’m guessing many…

You know how I know I married the right woman? Well, on our wedding night, she let me….oh come on! This is a family blog. And it’s about autographs. Here’s how I know.
I was lamenting the fact that Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker) was coming to our hometown, and I had work and couldn’t go. I had seen a screening for this bizarre,…

A lot of interesting autograph things were shown happening on TMZ tonight (that show is my guilty pleasure).
Wrestler Chris Jericho was signing autographs for some people and when he said he wasn’t going to sign anymore, a guy got upset and started screaming expletives at him. At one point, he even called him the n-word (side note:…

Two friends of mine that do autographs -- one that’s a wonderful man with a great collection, the other a dope that’s an autograph dealer -- have told me of the countless times they’ve gotten Peter Frampton and how nice he was at signing. They got him at the venues and at hotels. Now, I have a bunch of Frampton albums that are signed, but I bought them cheap with a collection of albums. I’ve never had the pleasure of meeting him, or seeing him in concert.…

I got that call from a girl I hadn’t heard from in years. It’s that call we all dread. No, no...not that type of call! It’s someone that asked me if I could meet her downtown for the first day of Comic Con, to help her get Conan O’Brien’s autograph. He was going to be filming some shows down there, and she remembered a few years earlier when we attended the…

On the afternoon talk show The Talk, there was a guest from Entertainment Tonight named Cameron Madison. He showed up to tell a story about Star Wars creator George Lucas. He showed clips of Lucas leaving a hotel and being asked for his autograph. Madison said they were autograph dealers trying to make money off his…
