One of the Biggest Forgers Ever -- Made Into a Movie

Elvis Presley’s first Las Vegas contract is up for auction. I thought about blogging that story, but I’m so burned out on Elvis items. Instead, as a movie critic, I thought I’d do a couple movie related things.

In the new documentary “Always at the Carlyle” you hear a lot of celebrities talk about…

An Autographed House -- How Much Will it go For ?

I almost wrote a blog today about baseball cards, after hearing that a Derek Jeter rookie card went for $93,000 on ebay. I think it’s the most for a modern day baseball card. I remember a Lebron James rookie card went for $312,000. It had part of the NBA logo patch from his uniform sewed into the card. And by the way he continues to play, and at…

A Kurt Cobain Guitar....and a Funny Deadpool Autograph

I loved the first Deadpool movie, and the second one is just as funny. I thought I’d share with you a scene that involves an autograph. At one point, Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds), is thrown through a window after an explosion. A child is eating Wheaties at the table, and as he crashes through, he grabs the box, which shows the Deadpool character…

The Great Underwear Caper -- Starring William Shatner

I just spent an hour writing a blog, and it somehow disappeared. I figured I wouldn’t re-write it, but it’s such a funny story, I wanted to share it. So I’m going to rewrite the blog, but I’m typing fast, and I’m not going to go back and reread this for spelling errors or anything.

One of my jobs is…

It Took 30 Years to Complete This Autographed Album

When I started working my first radio job, I was still going to college. Since I was majoring in journalism, I was thrilled that I got so lucky. I had been writing jokes for a morning show, without being paid, and was able to parlay that into being the producer and head writer for that morning show. That eventually lead to me being a co-host of the morning show and doing other things at the radio station. Obviously, working at a popular radio station helps…

The Blood Blog -- Stan Lee and KISS Edition

I was trying to decide what to blog about today. I had heard that Zsa Zsa Gabor had a huge auction going on. That wacky guy she was married to was selling off a lot of her stuff. Yet I don’t think there’s enough interesting in her. The late actress hasn’t been relevant in decades. And the last time she made the news was for slapping a cop [side…

Three Autographs I Could've Gotten -- R. Lee Ermey, Milos Forman, and Corey Feldman

Everyone knows R. Lee Ermey, even if you don’t recognize that name. He first came onto my radar when I was in high school and “Full Metal Jacket” came out. He was the intimidating drill sergeant in everyone’s face. He was in the “Toy Story” movies and about 75 other films. It was the late ‘90s and a few of the radio stations I did movie reviews…

Muscle Men Autographs -- Arnold and Russell Edition

There have been a number of clips of Arnold Schwarzenegger getting out of the hospital after his open-heart surgery, and he’s signing lots of autographs. I think it’s funny that the first thing he said when he woke up from surgery is “I’m back!”

I remember a friend, whose dad was a retired police…

Beast of Burden -- A Tough Few Autographs I Got Once

It’s always weird when I’ve gotten an autograph from somebody that dies soon after. There have been many people I could’ve gotten signatures from, and I decide not to put the effort into going to the venue -- and they die a few months later. And I regret those. One of the most regretful of those moments comes when I worked as a DJ at a radio station and I brought winners backstage at a concert. It was Joe Cocker and Stevie Ray Vaughn. We were told by the…

A History Lesson with Collectibles -- George Washington Hair and a copy of the Declaration

A rare parchment copy of the Declaration of Independence made in Washington in the 1820s for James Madison has been found. It’s one of 51 that are known to exist, and if you’re interested in buying it, well...you’re too late. Billionaire philanthropist David M. Rubenstein snapped it up.

It’s a facsimile made from the original handwritten calf skin document crafted in Philadelphia in 1776. It even bears the image of…

The Best Autograph Story Ever (or "Warren Sapp is a Sap")

I’ve never been a fan of Warren Sapp. The guy had a 12-year career in the NFL and he’s a Hall of Famer (not sure how he fared on Dancing with the Stars). Yet he was always getting into trouble. That could be fights on the field, at a strip club...the stories were endless.

That’s why I took great…

The Hilarious Way Somebody Obtained Super Bowl Autographs

I’ve talked before about Guillermo, the security guard on the Jimmy Kimmel Show. Kimmel started going to him in a humorous way, partly making fun of his accent, but also just enjoying the fact that he didn’t know a lot about pop culture stuff. And as his on-camera presence increased, he started using him more and more. That included going to the red carpet for the Oscars, where he often tries to talk the celebrities into drinking shots of Tequila, or asks the…

Bryan Cranston Retires -- From Signing Autographs!

Remember when Ringo Starr made that statement that he wasn’t going to sign autographs anymore? It was hysterical, because he hadn’t signed autographs (in person) for decades before that statement. What people didn’t know was, that he was great about signing through the mail (I sent him a CD a month before he decided to stop signing).

Well, actor Bryan Cranston yesterday made a similar statement. Luckily for my…

What do Bono and Stormy Daniels Have in Common?

Well, I'm guessing Bono isn't as fond of President Trump as Stormy Daniels seems to be.

A few autograph related things happened in national news lately, so I thought I'd do a quick write up on them.

At the Grammy's, one of the winners was backstage. During an interview, the female rapper, was excited that she got Bono's autograph. She held it up to the camera, and it looked like he also inscribed something nice to her as well. It's always nice when you find out other famous…

Album Covers and Al Stewart

All of us that have gotten in-person autographs complain about how much harder it’s gotten over the years. With all the eBay people, and folks wanting selfies, it’s really a mess. In the old days, you could bring a few of your albums, get them signed, and sometimes have a great conversation with the musicians. Now they see a stack of albums, and figure you’re going to sell them. And having albums doesn’t show you’re a fan. Anybody can go to an old record store or antique…

Sexual Assault at Autograph Signing ?

As a movie critic, I can’t tell you how horrible it is to hear about all these actors and their sexual harassment stories. It’s not the hearing about it that I mind. I hope all women, everywhere, no matter how many years later, tell their tales. Hopefully it’ll get Hollywood royalty to change the way they think.

I had heard stories about Kevin Spacey before, so that didn’t surprise me. It was Dustin Hoffman and…

Who Wants an Autographed Liver ?

I did a story for Autograph Magazine over a decade ago, about people that got autographs on their body and then had them tattooed. That lead to somebody sending a letter to the editor, showing their entire back tattooed by the Chicago Bears, with his shaved head having the Bears logo tattooed on it. Yes, fans can be hardcore.

Yet this story takes the tattooing of a name or initials...a bit too far. A surgeon in Birmingham, England named Simon…

Best Autograph Request Ever -- A Pearl Harbor Survivor Asking President Trump on TV

There was just a ceremony where President Trump signed some Pearl Harbor proclamation. He had a handful of Pearl Harbor survivors there. Surprisingly, he didn't make any comments about the people he hated (remember that disaster with the Native Americans, and Trump bringing up Pocahontas?).

The best part was watching Trump shake hands, and the second to the last guy saying, "I met you before," to which Trump said "That's right." The guy then said, "You gave me a hat, but...you didn't…

What do Samuel Jackson and Ice Cube Have in Common?

One of my guilty pleasures is the show TMZ. Sure, the crowd of goobers talking with Harvey in the studio are annoying and not all that interesting, the voice-over guy and the things they flash on screen, often have me in stitches.

Also, when the cameras are nabbing all these celebrities coming out of restaurants or clubs, sometimes their are autograph seekers. Or...should I say...autograph dealers. If you watch the show, you wonder why any celebrity would ever sign an autograph…
